Hike from mild to wild. Leave right from the house for the Arkansas Hills, or take a vehicle for easy access to the Colorado Trail, the Continental Divide Trail, the Rainbow Trail, and countless others. Our favorites are South Fooses Creek, Greens Creek, and Browns Creek Waterfall. Among counties in the continental US, Chaffee has the most 14,000' mountains. Many of our guests "bag" Shavano and Tabaguache (on the same day!), but there are plenty more to choose from.
Ride mountain bikes fantastic single track. You can leave right from the house to access the North Backbone Trail and the entire Arkansas Hills Trail System ("Forty Miles of Hell Yeah"). Many of these trails are ride-able during the winter! It's a short drive to the Monarch Crest, which is on every mountain biker's bucket list. Road bikers delight in the paved county roads and are challenged by high passes.
Exploring on a dirt bike is a true adventure! The Rainbow Trail has many miles of challenging single track. Texas Creek and the Four Mile area also have great riding. I leave from the house on explorations of the dirt roads in the surrounding mountains (but my dirt bike is street legal).
Run the Arkansas River in a kayak or a raft.
Ski or ride at Monarch, best snow in the Rockies.
Explore our lovely town. Shop for art, antiques, clothes and sporting equipment. Attend live music concerts at Riverside Park Amphitheater, the Salida Steam Plant, and numerous other venues. Sample libations at local breweries, wineries and distilleries.
Enjoy Salida's numerous festivals like FibARK and Art Walk.
